Certified Where It Matters: OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100

Oeko-Tex confidence in textiles standard 100 logo.

At Tuft X Finch, we care about more than how a product looks and feels. We also care about what it’s made of.

What the fabric on your sofa is tested for:

Every fabric we use is certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 — an independent, third-party certification that tests textiles for harmful substances before they ever reach your home.

In plain terms: the materials that touch your skin have been lab-tested against strict safety limits, not just checked by us or our manufacturer.

The technical details

For those who want the specifics:

  • What’s tested: OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 screens for over 1,000 substances that can be harmful to health, including formaldehyde, banned azo dyes and their breakdown products, heavy metals (like lead, cadmium, and nickel), and pesticide residues.
  • How strict the limits are: Requirements scale with skin contact. Products in direct, prolonged contact with skin — like upholstery fabric — must meet tighter limit values than products with no skin contact at all. Our fabric is held to that higher bar.
  • Who does the testing: Testing is carried out by independent, accredited OEKO-TEX® partner institutes, not by us or our suppliers. It’s a neutral, third-party check.
  • How current it is: Certification isn’t a one-time badge. It’s renewed annually, with limit values reviewed and updated every year to reflect the latest science.
  • What it isn’t: OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is a safety certification, not an organic certification. It doesn’t speak to how the fiber was grown — it speaks to whether the finished fabric is free of substances that could harm you.

A Note on Labeling

Our fabric is tested and certified at the factory level before it’s built into your sofa. As a young brand, our current inventory doesn’t yet carry a physical OEKO-TEX® tag on the product itself — but the certification applies to the materials in every unit we sell, and our certificate is available for review below. We’re working with our factories to add on-product tags to future runs.

Why It Matters

Your skin touches this fabric every day. You sit on it, lean into it, and probably fall asleep on it more often than you’d admit. That’s exactly why we didn’t leave it to chance.

Tested materials. Verified by an independent lab. Comfort you can trust.
